Circuits allow electricity to flow in a circular path from a positive to a negative lead. Simple circuits make a great tool for teaching basic electrical concepts, and for experimenting with electricity at home. Make sure a qualified adult is present when working with electricity. Building a circuit is not hard as long as you have a power source, some wires, and a light bulb or other electrical component. If you want to learn even more about circuits, you can attach a simple switch that allows you to turn the bulb on and off.

Me and my colleagues Atul and Rashmi have lately been thinking of creating a fun project for our kids which they can assemble easily from household stuff and items locally available, understand how an electric current is generated and check the conductivity of current themselves. They can even experiment with conductive and non-conductive materials and get an understanding of the behaviour of various materials against the current at an early age. Also, once they get hold of the basic circuitry needed to generate current, they can have fun and create their own circuits like. This project is very conceptual and gives children of age group years a flexibility to try out different ways to generate the current and what can be done using that current. We tried to buy very less items and use stuff from house and made a working electric circuit out of it.

The individual parts can then be used later for other experiments. Alternate: Scientific knife switches, bulbs, bulb holders, and cell holders are available commercially. These are used to illustrate most of the other experiments throughout this site Figure 4. Make a Simple Circuit. Hook a paperclip around the tack and press it into the wood block. Cut a new wire, strip both ends, and wrap each end around two more thumbtacks. Press one thumbtack into the wood so that when the paperclip rotates it will make contact and close the switch.

  1. Have you ever wondered about the difference between batteries and electricity from wall outlets, or how to make a circuit?

  2. A circuit is a closed path that electrons flow along to provide power to your home and electronics.
